2009 Honor Roll/Spotlight School
Burroughs School was selected by the Illinois State Board of Education and Northern Illinois University to receive the “Spotlight School” and “Academic Improvement” awards for its academic accomplishments during the 2008-2009 school year. The title of "Illinois Spotlight School" is awarded to schools with a high percentage of low income students who have demonstrated much success in helping to close the achievement gap while meeting Annual Yearly Progress under the No Child Left Behind federal education plan. The "Illinois Academic Improvement Award" is given to schools who have made steady academic gains for at least three years and showed a 7.5 point increase this year or a 15 point increase in test scores over the past three years.
